Die Inselgruppe der Komoren liegt zwischen der Nordspitze von Madagaskar und der
Ostküste Afrikas. Drei der insgesamt vier Inseln bilden eine unabhängige Republik. Die
südöstlich gelegene Insel Mayotte ist nach wie vor französischer Besitz.
Die Landesbezeichnung hat sich vom arabischen "Kamar"
(Mondinsel) abgeleitet.

Nationalfahne
Die vier Farbstreifen symbolsieren die vier Insel des Archipels,
nämlich Gelb für Moheli, Weiß für Mayotte, Rot für Anjouan und Blau für
Grande Comore. Die 4 Sterne am Halbmond stellen diese vier Inseln
nochmals dar. während das Grün und der Halbmond für den Islam stehen,
der Staatsreligion.
Nationalhymne
Udzima wa ya Maiswa ist seit der Unabhängigkeit 1975 die
Nationalhymne der Union der Komoren. Sie wurde von Said Hachim Sidi Abderemane und
Kamildine Abdallah komponiert; erstgenannter schrieb auch den komorischen Text.
