Simbabwe, einst Südrhodesien, liegt in Südostafrika, zwischen
dem Sambesi, der die Nordgrenze nach Sambia bildet, und dem Limpopo, dem südlichen
Grenzfluss nach Südafrika. Westlich wird Simbabwe durch Botswana begrenzt, im Osten liegt
Mosambik.
Simbabwe ist ein Bantu-Wort und bedeutet "steinerne
Stadt".

Die Nationalfahne basiert auf die Flagge der ZANU, die
das Land 1980 in die Unabhängigkeit führte.
Grün bedeutet das Land, Gelb die Bodenschätze, Rot
das Blut des Volkes und Schwarz die Menschen in diesem Land.
Im schwarzen Dreieck sieht man einen geschnitzten Vogel. Der ist nicht
etwa erfunden, sondern wurde in der Ruinenstadt Groß-Simbabwe gefunden
und wird von den Simbabwern hoch verehrt.

Die Wellen stehen
für die Victoriafälle.
Die Ruine symbolisiert
die alte simbabwische Kultur.
Der Spruch bedeutet übersetzt "Einheit,
Freiheit, Arbeit".
Nationalhymne
Kalibusiswe Ilizwe leZimbabwe (auf IsiNdebele) bzw.
Simudzai
mureza wedu weZimbabwe (auf Shona) ist seit 1994 die Nationalhymne von
Simbabwe (auch: Zimbabwe). Das gleichnamige Lied Zimbabwe von Bob Marley & the
Wailers, welche bei der Unabhängigkeitsfeier von Simbabwe auftraten, gilt als
inoffizielle Nationalhymne Simbabwes.
